Social Pedagogy: A long-standing and evolving field of study and practice
"With over 150 years of history, social pedagogy is both an interdisciplinary academic field of inquiry and a field of practice that is situated in the intersection of three areas of human activity: education, social work and community development. " - Schugurensky and Silver, April 2013
The term "social pedagogy" was introduced sometime in the 19th century in Europe. It is believed that either German educator Karl Mager (1810-1858) or his older contemporary, the educational philosopher, Friedrich Diestersweg (1790-1866) who first mentioned the concept.
